Smelter Operation Readiness - Process Engineers

The purpose of this position is:

Metallurgists and Process Engineers will provide technical advice and guidance for process optimization in various circuits within the Manyar Smelter and MMR plant. Provide technical expertise and support during process troubleshooting, plant start up and shutdown, root cause analyses, process optimization. Metallurgists/Process Engineers will also manage or participate in process improvement projects.

This is a general role advertisement to gather a pool of metallurgical and process engineering talents in Indonesia with various experience level, to be considered in various positions within the plant.

The key duties and responsibilities of this position are:

1. Safety & Environmental
   • Proactively participate in achieving Safe Production targets through involvement in all safety programs, including Fatal Risk Management (FRM), through positive collaboration with others.
   • Contribute to multi-disciplinary teams related to safety program implementation, HIRADC analyses, and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
   • Contribute to incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
   • Demonstrate ability to have positive interactions with operators, mechanics, technicians, during safety field verifications. Able to stop the job when there is imminent danger or deficiencies in critical controls.
   • To be familiar with all relevant environmental regulations and commitment; proactively contribute to the whole team to ensure the operation is consistent with those regulations and commitments.
2. Technical
   • To have daily interactions with the operations team, to provide guidance on achieving safe production goals and gather information from the field of any challenges faced.
   • Monitor process performance daily through detailed trends of various process variables. Provide feedback to Operations and superiors within the Technical Services team and provide possible solutions.
   • Lead/assist in maintaining and improving the sites performance management system (dashboards, etc.)
   • To evaluate practices and procedures, report on issues to Operations and Technical Services Superintendent, provide suggestions on solutions.
   • Lead/assist in metallurgical study, development, and testing. Review and recommend new or enhanced metallurgical testing methods and equipments.
   • Collaborate with the Automation team to ensure field instrumentations reliability and accuracy, control systems are functioning appropriately, improve control logics to provide the needs of the operations.
   • Provide process engineering expertise on to the Plant Engineering team on various projects.
3. During the detailed engineering, construction, operational readiness, commissioning phase of the project:
   • To be familiarized with the design and engineering aspects of the assigned area.
   • Participate in various training programs as mandated by the business need.
   • Lead/participate in producing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) related to metallurgy/process engineering or other areas as required.
   • Lead/participate in generation of troubleshooting guides.
   • May be required to deliver or participate in delivery of training classes.
   • Involved in the planning and execution of the pre-commissioning and commissioning activities within the appropriate technical scope and area.
   • To support other Operational Readiness efforts as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education, Certifications, and Experience:

• Senior Metallurgists/Senior Process Engineer
  • Bachelor's degree in a Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering discipline or related field and more than five (5) years of experience in mineral/metal processing environment. Those with specific experience in pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical operations is highly regarded.
  • Masters degree in related engineering discipline is preferred.
• Metallurgists/Process Engineer
  • Bachelor's degree in a Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering discipline or related field and 2-3 years of experience in mineral/metal processing environment. Those with specific experience in pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical operations is highly regarded.
• Pengawas Operasional Pertama (POP) certified.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Any metallurgists or chemical engineers with experience in any of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
  • Bulk materials handling (belt conveying, pneumatic conveying, milling)
  • Pyrometallurgy (copper, other base metals)
  • Hydrometallurgy (electrolytic refining or similar)
  • Hydrometallurgy (Chemical processing, Solvent Extraction, leaching, pressure leaching, autoclave, redox reactions, precipitation)
  • Gas Cleaning Circuit (Electrostatic Precipitators, scrubbers, etc.)
  • Effluent Treatment
  • Sulfuric Acid Plant
  • SAG mill, Ball mill, Flotation
  • Solid/Liquid Separation
• Additional desirable technical skills:
  • Process simulation experience (METSIM, JKSimMet, etc.)
  • Advanced data analytics (Python, SQL, Tableau, etc.)
  • Some familiarity with advanced process control (fuzzy, neural networks, etc.)
  • Project management experience
  • Experienced in risk-based analysis (HAZOP, FMEA, RCAP)
• Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.
• Skilled in influencing others not under direct supervision, including managing upwards.
• Familiarity and experience with relevant Indonesian regulations on safety, health, and environmental for mineral/metal processing.
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Working knowledge of MS Office suites, SAP, EMS, and other business systems.
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
