Energy Finance Analyst (Indonesia – Remote)
The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking a motivated and experienced professional who is passionate about Indonesia’s energy transition and eager to apply their expertise in energy economics and finance. As an Energy Finance Analyst for Indonesia, you will play a key role in developing country-level analyses and supporting targeted, high-impact stakeholder engagement. You will help shape research and analysis on Indonesia’s energy transition, with a focus on the power sector—evaluating corporate financial structures of major energy-oriented companies, looking at coal transition mechanisms, advancing renewable energy development, exploring financing mechanism for coal to clean energy transition and national grid investment, and assessing policies that are shaping Indonesia’s transition.
The ideal candidate will be a highly self-motivated professional with the ability to work independently in a remote setting, effectively managing multiple tasks, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision. They will bring relevant professional experience in Indonesia, with a strong background in energy economics and energy policy, and a proven track record of covering, analysing, or working directly within the country’s energy sector.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with team members and work independently to research and write original, compelling, and professional reports and commentaries on Indonesia’s energy transition.
- Conduct cutting-edge financial and market analysis to evaluate Indonesia’s energy sector at asset, corporate, and national levels.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in both the private and public sectors across Indonesia, representing IEEFA at meetings and industry events.
- Support the dissemination of research findings through proactive engagement with media outlets and a strong presence on social media platforms.
- Engage with IEEFA colleagues across Asia and globally to ensure research alignment and the use of effective communication strategies.
- Conduct horizon scanning for energy and finance developments by reviewing articles, annual reports, investor presentations, and industry publications related to Indonesia’s energy sector and investments.
- Provide insights to the media and respond to requests for commentary to help shape an informed public narrative on Indonesia’s energy transition.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- A minimum of three years’ experience in energy, finance, or a related field. Working knowledge in investment decisions and corporate activities are required. Prior experience in corporate or project finance preferred.
- A degree in finance, economics, accounting, or engineering and/or with professional certifications (e.g. CFA) or appropriate and relevant market-oriented experience in lieu of those degrees.
- Understanding of industry, policy and financial landscape in energy markets, with an emphasis on Indonesia’s power sector.
- Ability to analyze financial statements and corporate accounts, with an understanding of evaluating financial and operational performance metrics as presented in official filings.
- Experience conducting quantitative analysis on energy, finance and/or economic issues; financial modelling capabilities are preferred.
- Professional proficiency in writing in English and excellent narrative-building and writing skills demonstrated through publications, reports, and commentaries.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (verbal, written, and through presentations) and with good political judgment to media, finance, and government stakeholders.
- High degree of technological proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word and demonstrated ability to learn new software and applications.
- Must possess a commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable, and profitable energy economy.
Compensation and Benefits
Full-time 12-month fixed-term contract with the option of extension by mutual agreement and a market-competitive remuneration.
Fee to be negotiated based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity.
Travel
Some travel is required. All global team members attend IEEFA’s annual conference and regional or international team retreat.
Physical Demand and Work Environment.
Must be able to work for prolonged periods at a computer. Computer work can involve repetitive motion, eyestrain, back, and neck strain.
