We’re looking for a Senior Database Architect / Specialist to lead the design and management of scalable, secure, and cloud-native database and data lake solutions. You’ll work across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Snowflake, playing a key role in building the data infrastructure that supports business-critical applications and analytics at scale.
The ideal candidate has deep expertise with AWS Aurora, PostgreSQL, Azure SQL, and experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, DynamoDB, or Cosmos DB, along with strong knowledge of data lake architecturesusing Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, and Snowflake.
Key Responsibilities
- Database Architecture & Design
- Design and implement scalable and high-availability database solutions on AWS Aurora (PostgreSQL), PostgreSQL, and Azure SQL.
- Develop and maintain data models, schemas, and structures to support application and business requirements.
- Define data architecture standards and best practices.
- Performance Optimization & Tuning
- Analyze and resolve complex performance bottlenecks.
- Optimize SQL queries, indexing strategies, and storage configurations for high throughput and low latency.
- Security & Compliance
- Implement robust data security measures including encryption, access controls, and audit logging.
- Ensure compliance with relevant data privacy laws and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS, ISO27001).
- Cloud Infrastructure Integration
- Collaborate with DevOps and cloud engineering teams to deploy and manage database instances in AWS and Azure environments.
- Design and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Monitoring & Maintenance
- Monitor database health using tools such as CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, or third-party solutions.
- Perform regular updates, patching, and capacity planning.
- Collaboration & Documentation
- Work closely with software engineers, data analysts, and product teams to support data-intensive applications.
- Document architecture, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
- Future Roadmap: Design and support NoSQL data stores for high-throughput and flexible data models, reviewing technologies such as MongoDB, Amazon DynamoDB, and Azure Cosmos DB.
Requirements
7+ years of experience in database architecture or data platform engineering.
Advanced knowledge of AWS Aurora, PostgreSQL, and Azure SQL.
Experience with NoSQL database technologies, such as:
- MongoDB
- Amazon DynamoDB
- Azure Cosmos DB
Proven experience with cloud data lake platforms and tools, including:
- Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2
- Azure Synapse Analytics
- Azure Data Factory
- Snowflake
- AWS Glue / Lake Formation / S3
Certifications AWS Certified Database, Azure Data Engineer are a plus.
Strong skills in data modeling, ETL/ELT pipeline development, and data warehousing.
Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation and orchestration.
Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Bicep.
Understanding of global compliance standards such as ISO27001, GDPR, and PCI DSS.
