Inchcape’s footprint in Indonesia started in August 2021, with the establishment of PT JLM Auto Indonesia as a joint venture between Inchcape and Indomobil. PT JLM Auto Indonesia is the authorised importer and distributor of Jaguar Land Rover and Harley Davidson vehicles in Indonesia. In March 2023, Inchcape announced the appointment of Inchcape and Indomobil as the manufacturer and distributor of Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Indonesia, which is effective from October 2023. In July 2023, Inchcape and Great Wall Motor announced their global strategic partnership and distributorship for Indonesia.

Role Purpose

The Managing Director will be responsible for overseeing the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of the company. This role requires a visionary leader with strong business acumen, the ability to drive performance, and a passion for fostering a positive organizational culture. The Managing Director will work closely with the global senior leadership of Inchcape to ensure the company's success and long-term growth.

As a joint-venture company, the role will be responsible for fostering a strong, collaborative partnership with our JV partner. This role requires a strategic leader who can drive business success through cooperation, aligning objectives, leveraging synergies, and ensuring sustainable growth for both entities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Formation and Implementation
  • Develop the strategy for Indonesia, anticipating megatrends and complex challenges and opportunities. Identify and capitalize on opportunities for joint expansion with the JV partner and market growth.
  • Work closely with the JV partner to develop and execute joint business strategies that maximize value for both parties. Cultivate a relationship based on trust, transparency, and shared goals to enhance mutual success.
  • Develop and ensure execution of strategic action plans to achieve revenue, PBT, market share targets as well as other critical KPIs through key value drivers in the market. Ensure the strategy is successfully implemented and meets long-term business needs.
  • Leadership and Direction
  • Set and communicate the company’s strategy, along with the broad actions needed to implement it, for achieving Inchcape's mission, vision, and values within the market; inspire a large or diverse workforce to commit to these tenets and do extraordinary things to achieve Inchcape's business goals.
  • Performance Management
  • Manage and report on business performance; hold direct reports accountable for achievement of business plans, and take corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of business objectives, balancing the need to deliver short-term business objectives with the longer-term delivery of stakeholder value.
  • Business Planning
  • Lead the development of annual and longer-term business plans for the market, ensuring alignment with strategy; quantify business outcomes, i.e., revenues or other key performance indicators (KPIs) and resource budgets (financial and headcount); and ensure integration of key activities or projects across the organization.
  • Operations Management
  • Oversee and ensure the effective operations and management of the assembly plant and retail network, both vertically integrated as well as third party dealerships to maximize the delivery of the sales KPIs.
  • Business Development
  • Oversee the design, development, and delivery of the market's business development strategy to drive market share and create long-term value for the organization. Transactions may involve alliances, collaborations, mergers and acquisitions, and other activities.
  • Budgeting and Costing
  • Oversee the setting of annual budgets, project budgets, investments, CAPEX and OPEX and ensure that financial and cash resources of the Group are being used to drive required value and return on investment.
  • Supplier/OEM Management
  • Oversee the management of OEM relationships and negotiations, in the consideration of new OEM opportunities and the continuation of existing relationships in the market.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Identify and manage stakeholders up to and including top management level, finding out their needs, issues, and concerns and reacting to them by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions.
  • Corporate Representation
  • Represent the organization in a variety of industry, institutional, and/or professional forums, boards, and committees, in order to promote the company. Represent the organization in external relations with investors, clients, industry, partners, the public, and others. May involve preparation of presentations and materials for professional partnering meetings, seminars, and conferences.
  • Organisational Capability Building
  • Identify the capabilities needed to meet the current and emerging business needs of the market. Evaluate current capabilities, identify gaps, and prioritse development activities.
  • Improvement and Innovation
  • Take responsibility for developing and delivering change management plans and achieving outcomes that support the organization's overall strategy. Oversee the delivery of Distribution Excellence, Digital and IT projects; ensure and foster appropriate partnering to achieve quality deliverables on time and on budget.

  • Sustainability
  • Ensure that business activities and individuals within a significant area of responsibility adhere to the organization's sustainability policies and procedures in order to minimize business risk and to meet the organization's needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs in terms of the environment and natural resources, social equity, and economic development.
  • Building Workforce Capability
  • Hold overall responsibility for building the capabilities of a large and diverse workforce and build a leadership team for own area or function. Responsible for leading, coaching, and mentoring leadership team and supporting their professional development. Embed personal development and the fulfilment of personal potential in the culture of the organization.
  • Internal Stakeholder Relationships
  • Manage relationships with strategic internal stakeholders and act as a business partner to them, building high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust, and mobilizing appropriate internal and/or external resources to support in delivering business strategy and plans.

Key Qualifications and Experience

 Proven experience in an executive leadership role, with a strong track record of success in managing and growing a company.

 A deep understanding of corporate governance, business development, and strategic planning.

 Exceptional leadership and communication skills with the ability to inspire and influence across all levels of the organization.

 Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets, financial statements, and P&L responsibilities.

 Ability to think strategically, with strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
